Below are samples of student work from the courses I have taught at the Art Institute of Tampa. The students in this gallery are all highlighted for setting the standard in their respective courses. If your work is selected, and you would like it to appear here, please print and sign the Artwork Release Form and turn it into me.

Graphics Programming

In this course, students are exposed to Autodesk Maya, and the power of scripting. Students use MEL (Maya Embedded Language) to automate their workflow, develop custom graphical user interfaces, and add functionality to their models and animations. Students build a clock and add working gears and other elements to it using MELscript. Students also harness the power of 'for' loops as a method of automating the process of terrain generation. The animations below show how expressions are used to drive interlocking cogs inside clock structures that students have designed.

Demo Reel Research

Here are a few select animatics from the Demo Reel Research course, in which students develop pre-visualization work for their Capstone project.

2D Animation

This course focuses on learning and applying the 12 basic principles of animation. Pencil test software is used to capture frames into a movie. Students are also exposed to creating model sheets and elements of character design for animation.

Digital 2D Animation

In this course, students are exposed to Adobe Flash for 2D animation. Students apply their 2D animation principles to creating digital animations that can be targeted for broadcast and/or the web. Four projects are assigned in the course: Silhouette World, Alien Encounter, Monologue (lip-synch), and a Final Project.

Advanced 2D Animation

Team production is emphasized in this course. Students work together in groups of two to develop a pitch bible, storyboards, animatics, and a final 20 second animation.
