After I write the dialogue for my comic in Photoshop, I pencil the comic in my sketchbook. The artwork is then scanned and brought into Photoshop:
Next, I use Corel Painter X to digitally ink the characters. I use the Scratchboard Tool with a 12.2px brush. My source file is 7″ x 2.5″ at 600 DPI. Working at a large size and high resolution helps when you are targeting your art for print.
Finally, coloring, word balloons and backgrounds are added using Photoshop. This is the completed strip:
